Angels and Demons bonus review

My Rating:
Angels & Demons, Special Illustrated Edition

I enjoyed "Angels and Demons", maybe not as much as "The DaVinci Code", but I enjoyed it nonetheless. It starts off, as I said before, exactly the same as DaVinci (or, as John says, DaVinci Code starts off the same as Angels and Demons, since A&D came out first), and follows the same narrative structure as well. Fast-paced, short chapters, following a series of clues to the next conflict point. The ambigrams are an interesting twist, but hard to picture if you're listening to the audiobook (I later found them on the artist's website). The Illuminati as source of a conspiracy was interesting as well. Thankfully though, the author includes a good twist at the end, otherwise it might have been disappointing. I liked the book, especially the ending (and if I may add a slight spoiler, I wonder why the Catholic Church isn't more upset about this book, given the ending, than DaVinci Code).
All in all, a good page-turner (or iPod filler), good for summer reading, but nothing that stands out as great literature or anything. By the way, did you know that you can change the speed of the reader in an iPod audiobook? The iPod sorts of cuts out the dead space to make the reader talk a little bit faster, but without changing the pitch of his voice (so character voices stay true to the reader). Pretty cool, and it enabled me to get through the last 8 hours of the audiobook in under 7 hours of listening.
