Fire John L. Smith
I've mentioned my displeasure with the state of State's football team before. I just don't think John L. Smith is the guy to get the recruits, and the Big Ten is figuring out his screen pass offense REAL quick. It's time for him to go. Why? Because a big name just popped onto the radar screen. Steve Mariucci was fired by the Lions. Please. Like it's his fault that Matt Millen is possibly the worst GM in the history of the NFL (cases in point: his talking to college players at a postseason all-star game when he's not allowed to do that as a GM; hiring Mariucci without following NFL hiring procedures; drafting three of the exact same wide receiver, only to have them all fail to produce a 1000 yard receiving season). Mariucci is a good coach whom I could see turning into another Pete Carroll type, having done his time in the NFL, and finding a home at the college level.
We all know by now that Steve Mariucci is good friends with basketball coach Tom Izzo. It's time to bring them back together and get the football team back on track.

Mooch got screwed by Millen. Millen is incompetent. Personally, Ford should have fired both Millen AND Harrington for being all hype and no production.
As for him coaching the beloved Spartans, I would love to see it. Personally, I think MSU should have hired Tyrone Willingham before Notre Dame got him but that is another post altogether.
I agree that John L has got to go. He's dragging MSU football into the toilet. Both he and hall of fame college hockey coach Ron Mason are proving the Peter Principle. Ron should have quit after coaching. He's proving he's an inadequate AD by not firing John L and the fact that hockey is second division in the CCHA. John L should have stayed at Louisville. Moving 'up' to the Big Ten is proving a bit over his head.
Michigan State was a very good, top 20 football team that John L. crushed. They Beat Notre Dame. They almost beat Michigan. They ran all over OSU until just before the half. Coaching (or lack thereof) resulted in a downward spiral thereafter. After that loss and a couple more, John L's explanation, "we're back to reality". No...they were back to John L's reality. He didn't expect to win and he convinced his players that they weren't winners. And guess what. Reality met expectations. If you expect to lose, you will, John L!
And I agree that he's incapable of recruiting Big Ten quality talent. He's signing players being recruited by the MAC. Absolutely no top 100 talent. Junior College kids who walked-on there without scholorship. Puleeze! Fire John L!
