An Embarrassment of Mangoes Review

If there was ever a book that confirmed my desire to just get on a boat and go sailing for the rest of my life, this was it. Ann Vanderhoof and her husband, Steve, left their jobs in Canada for a two year tour of the Caribbean. Along the way, they faced their fears (night sailing, mechanical breakdowns, hurricanes) and had an experience they'll never forget. Heck, I won't soon forget it, and I just read the book!
The author and her husband also do things that other cruisers might not: they talk to the locals, live off local goods, and basically figure out how to fix their own mistakes. The recipes the author includes at the end of each chapter are mouth-watering just reading them (especially the mixed drinks!). The book made me want to put together my own five-year plan to get out there and do it myself. It also allowed me to figure out how to get Lisa along too: she'll need to get past her own fears of night sailing, as well as learn to like eating fish a bit more.
Loved this book. If you're into sailing or tropical paradises, highly recommended.
Next up is The Sparrow by Mary Doria Russell, but I'll have an audio-book review and another mini-review coming up soon.
