Fledgling review
I really enjoyed Fledgling, for the most part. The story about a young vampire who wakes up injured, and with amnesia, made for a compelling tale. Throw in a little genetic engineering and racism and you have an even more interesting and topical story as well. The action is fast and furious, especially early on. But then comes the key flaw, in my opinion. The "Ina" (the vampire race in this book) solve their conflicts through a largely boring committee meeting. The meeting was meant to be dramatic and to build to a climax, but I really found it distracting and somewhat boring. It really was too bad, because the rest of the book was very interesting and I liked it a lot.
Next up, I'm switching to non-fiction again and reading "Why I am Not a Christian," a collection of essays by Bertrand Russell.
