Kafka on the Shore review

This is the second Marukami book I've read since starting this project, and I've not been disappointed by either one. I tore right through this book, which deftly switches between two narratives: the 15-year-old runaway trying to avoid his father's oedipal prophecy and an elderly man who is a little off since a childhood accident. The novel is almost science fiction in some parts, with some interesting forays into "entrance stones" and magic flutes, but largely is about those two interesting characters. They never quite cross paths exactly, and there were one or two loose ends that didn't seem to wrap up, if you were to pick nits, but I'm not. I really enjoyed reading it, and was disappointed when it was over.
Next up is The Futurist by James Othmer.
