The Art of War

My Rating:
The Art of War: The oldest military treatise in the world

I read this book via email. That's right, Daily Lit is a website that will email you a different part of a public domain book each day until you are done with it. A great way to basically force yourself to read a book a little bit each day. The emails were not long, and it only took about 2 minutes to read each segment in the morning. Definitely worth checking out, even if the selection is limited.
The Art of War is Sun Tzu's classic treatise on wartime strategy. A lot of the latter part of the book is somewhat obsolete, focusing on the tactics of marching an army across great distances, which has been replaced by planes and tanks now. But the basic strategies of knowing what your opponent will do, and what you should do, are extremely relevant even today. I wonder sometimes if our leaders have read this. They definitely should.
