October 2004 Archives
for the first time in my life, I have been wrapped up in politics. Almost on a daily basis I read about Bush/Kerry and for Illinois Obama/Keyes. It would be a total shock if Bush and Keyes were victorious come election time here in Illinois. I came into all this with an open mind, not wanting to favor any candidate for anything subjective like 'geez, this guy seems like a really nice guy'. I followed the Howard Dean - John Kerry race, which a lot of people thought would sway Howard Dean's way until he turned into the Incredible Hulk. I listened to George Bush's many speeches about the War on Terror and the War on Iraq.
I guess my conclusion is that neither candidate is the ideal candidate, the end all of presidents if you will. Both have flaws or ideas("plans") that I don't really agree with. My take on Bush is that his slogan should be "Nothing can't be fixed without ignorance and brute force". That was actually an old friend's phrase in referring to home construction. Though somewhat true, maybe a little unsettling, for home construction it is certainly not something to live by for a president. I have been irritated that Bush refuses to admit error, his broken record rhetoric on the 'War on Terror', his skewed views on our economy, his closed minded views on Civil Rights and Environmental issues, and last his inability to pronounce Nuclear. It is not Nucular, it is Noo-clee-er.
I will quote an interesting article today in the Tribune, written by Leonard Pitts. "After Sept 11 we wanted nothing so much as to feel safe. So some of us bought what Bush was selling -- the idea that security lay not in finding a terrorist who had attacked us, but in deposing a dictator who had not."
It is funny how the "War on Terror" went from not resting until we find Osama Bin Laden to getting rid of Saddam Hussein. Did Saddam Hussein pose a threat?? More than likely, but what about the people that did attack us?? Was Saddam flying one of those planes, or organizing who should fly those planes?? Where exactly is Osama anyway, and why is this no longer a care??
John Kerry may be considered by almost all Republicans as a flip-flopper, but at least he can open his eyes and see that things are not right. To realize that our nation went from a nation who people felt tremendous sympathies towards after 9/11 to one of the most hated nations in the world. Okay so maybe not most hated, but certainly there are very few people that will jump to our aid for much of anything these days. Will John Kerry being elected change that instantly?? No, but at least we can go back in the right direction. I have a feeling that we will lose much of the support we currently have in Iraq when Prime Minister Blair is gone. So then what...Who cares, sheer ignorance and brute force will get it done, right??
I think I am done with my soapbox (tree stump??) moment for today, I can't wait for all the campaigning to be over so whoever is in power can actually focus on their job rather than spending all of their time self promoting.
Choose who you will, these are just my observations.

New game from Papi, Dora is one of her favorites.

I can't help but be pissed at this...So, what is with people screwing up the words to the National Anthem and God Bless America?? Last night, during the seventh inning stretch, out marches Morris Robinson, a mountain of a man, to sing God Bless America. He sings Opera, no problem, I don't mind a change of pace. But get the damn words right...From the Mountains, to the prairies...Not Valleys. Unless there is a version of this song that I have never heard. Bring back the Irish Tenor, Ronan(I think)!!
